Improv is the base of excellent acting. It nurtures our creativity and gives us a sense of tremendous accomplishment. There is no right or wrong because it is created in the moment. The very nature of improv promotes valuable life skills. It reminds us how to be human in a performance environment. Students learn how to listen, collaborate, empathize, relinquish control, be mindful and present. We will apply the improv training to a one-act play for scene study.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to apply their new improv skills to a scripted environment. Your child will practice how to "behave" as the character in an imaginary environment with make believe events. They'll learn how to use their own opinions, attitudes and experiences in the service of their character so that their performances are truthful and connected. Students learn a great deal by watching themselves, therefore, scene work will be filmed for instructional purposes. This class will help nurture their confidence and even prepare them for all the wonderful acting and auditioning opportunities in Charlottesville.
This class is a performing arts extravaganza. Every class will include arts and crafts, singing, dancing and acting games. In this wonderfully creative environment, your child will learn vocal projection, listening skills, coordination, collaboration and how to follow directions. Our goal in this class is to nurture confidence, self awareness, creativity and expression. Your child will gain an evolved sense of themselves, a few new tunes, a skip in their step and artwork that would make Dr. Seuss proud. Parents are welcomed to observe the last 15 minutes of the last class.
